AISI 316L (1.4404) contains molybdenum, which gives much better resistance to chlorides and cleaning agents than standard stainless steel. It is the right choice for marine and yachting equipment, food processing, laboratories, medical devices and anything installed outdoors.
For offshore, chemical or other highly corrosive environments — or when higher strength is needed — Duplex stainless steel 1.4462 is the next step up.
316L has lower yield strength than C45 steel, so for the same load a larger cross-section is used. For higher strength with corrosion resistance, choose Duplex 1.4462.
